In this section, you will find what is new for the upcoming administration year for the Primary- and Junior-division assessments.
Sample Tests
The mathematics components of the sample tests have been updated. Prior to completing the Primary- or Junior-division assessment, students can become familiar with the assessment format and tools, and the types of questions on the assessment, by completing the sample test through the e-assessment platform or the EQAO website. The alternative version of the sample test is for students with special education needs or special circumstances who require a different format of the assessment (e.g., Braille format). Details about the available formats can be found in the Alternative Version of the Assessment section of this user guide.
EQAO Formula Sheet for the Junior-Division Assessment
The EQAO Formula Sheet that can be used by students completing the mathematics component of the Junior-division assessment, has been updated. The layout has been updated, however, the content of the formula sheet is still the same. The latest versions are available in the Resources for Teachers and Students section of the Grade 6 Junior Division page of the EQAO website.
Mathematics Released Questions, 2025
The mathematics Released Questions, 2025 documents for the Primary and Junior divisions were released in November 2025 to support teachers. They can be found in the Resources for Teachers and Students section of the Grade 3, Primary Division and Grade 6, Junior Division pages of the EQAO website.
Scheduling Assessment Sessions and Stages
EQAO assessment are not permitted to be scheduled on June 1st, in recognition of Ontario Day, starting this year.
Also, EQAO encourages schools to schedule assessment administration prior to the last two days of the administration window. These two days should be reserved for students who may have missed the originally scheduled dates or for extenuating circumstances.
French Immersion Programs
Starting this year, EQAO is expanding the option for students in French-Immersion programs, to complete the mathematics component of the assessment in French, to the Junior Division assessments. This means when a class is identified as French Immersion, the Primary- and Junior-Division assessment questions in the mathematics component will be automatically provided to students in English or French, based on the option selected by the school board for each grade. Refer to the French Immersion Program section for more information.
Principal Accounts
EQAO has introduced separate accounts for Principals and School Administrators within the e-assessment system. The biggest distinction between the two roles is that only Principals can complete the Principal Questionnaire, while School Administrators retain most existing permissions but are excluded from this responsibility. Going forward, Principals will serve as the main point of contact for all EQAO notifications. Refer to the Managing your account section for school administrators for more information.
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
EQAO has been making efforts to improve our security and access controls, and one of the key improvements is implementing MFA. School administrators, principals and board users will be required to use MFA. Click here to learn more about the setup and login process for MFA.
Quality Assurance Monitors
Quality assurance procedures help to ensure that EQAO assessments and tests produce valid and reliable data, which in turn produces confidence in the reliability and validity of EQAO data. As such, EQAO is reinstating its practice of contracting quality assurance (QA) monitors to visit a random sample of schools to observe the assessment or test administrations. A QA monitor may be reaching out to your school to schedule a visit.
Chromebook Technical Requirements
Recent updates regarding Google’s support of Kiosk have prompted a change to the technical requirements for the Primary and Junior division assessments. There are two methods to configure Chromebooks in order to administer the EQAO assessments. Each method has a set of pre-requisites. Refer to this section to follow the required steps for publicly funded schools before the assessment administration.
